Ll ???
« on: Monday 07 March 05 14:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone tell me what " Ll " stands for as a middle name on  a Welsh census return ?

I think it might be Lloyd as that would be his mother's maiden name.

Hi Jen,

On 1881 census for Evan Stephen, Holyhead.

Ican't find Evan on any other census, or his wife Sarah, so I thought i'd go for son Evan Ll.

Cant find any of them though.

Bit of a brick wall, really.

As Jen said, Lloyd and Llewelyn are the most likely 2. Just as my brother and I  ;D
Lloyd is probably your best bet, although there is no fixed naming convention, unlike the Scots, for example.

Just to confuse, other names could be:
Llawdden, Llecheu, Llefelys, Lleision, Lleufer, Lliedi, Llifon, Lludd, Lluddocaf, Llwyd, Llyfni, Llyndaf, Llynnor, Llyr, Llywarch.

Other than LLifon, Llyfni and Llyr, I've not met anyone with those names though.  ;)

Stuck with:
William Williams of Llanllyfni
John Jones in Llanelli
Evan Evans in Caio
David Davies of Llansanffraid
Evans: Caio/Carms
Jones: CDG, DEN

Thanks D,

Clear as mud then !! will keep all those in mind.

to Jen

Yes , thats the census I've got.

Maggie M is my great grandmother. I would dearly love to trace back further - perhaps I will need to visit Anglesey .
