1858 Church in Lonmay, Aberdeenshire
« on: Sunday 11 October 09 15:02 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon.

I have a death certificate of a relative who died in February 1858 and is buried in the Churchyard at St. C............, Lonmay.

Can anyone tell what the name of this Church is likely to be?  Shortish word, maybe 5 letters, Ca..., Cu... Cir ?   Dreadful writing! Unfortunately the y from the word "churchyard" written above is interfering with the name too.

No cause of death on this certificate either.  It states "no medical attendant lately".

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Doris

Could it be St Combs?

Some of the headstones have been transcribed and indexed. They are available here:

Kirsty!  You star!

Yes, I can now make out it is St Combs and I've had a look at the website and my relative is listed there plus some other family members!  A "yippee" moment!

Thank you so much for your help.

Kindest regards
Doris

Please may I gatecrash this topic. Are there any Milnes there, buried between 1840 and 1855? I do understand that Milne in Lonmay, or any other part of Scotland, is needle and haystack stuff but it's always worth the question and I live in hope. ;)

I'm looking for Joseph Milne, born 1815, married 1840, dead before the 1841 census. And his parents, John and Christian Milne, died between 1841 and 1851.

Sorry Doris, I hope you don't mind - I'd like one of those yippee moments too!! ;D

Jen

Yes please, that would be great. Who knows, some of them might be related to mine. As a matter of interest, are there any Mitchells in there?

Christian Milne was a Mitchell before her marriage but I have no idea where her family was from.

Jen :)
