" Member Connect Activity "
« on: Sunday 11 October 09 21:02 BST (UK) »
On A.com, obviously. Could someone please point me in the right direction here?

Craic is; I've just spotted how a certain member on there has been riding the coat tails of my own research, as placed on my Private site and plonking every Record I touch onto their own, Private site.

No two ways about it. This person's simply been burning the midnight oil, copying off every move I've made. It's taken me years, my parasite is racking up 'my' records at a rate of dozens a day. I'm being bled dry.

How are they doing this? I know A.com's been coming up with these new ways lately. I'm too busy working on my tree to notice much.

What ever. As of this moment; I'm done with it. I'm adding nothing more to my " Private " tree for it to be leached.  They've seemingly made it a Free Loaders heaven.

Can anyone suggest a site or soft ware, what ever, where I may now move my entire tree, please? Somewhere / somehow I can invite my family and also be true in my assurances to them that our material stays safe?

I made my tree Private on Ancestry for the same reason.

Thing is, it does not take much to work out the marriages and children as the records are now so complete.

I'll stand corrected, but I believe even if you have  a private tree, if  there is a match it will show up.

Private of course, but if person is guessing correctly then they can just keep adding.

Steven; This person isn't Guessing anything. They don't need to Now (Be Warned!); Ancestry have now made it so that you or I do all the running. We may search for Years. Spend what ever it takes. Rack our brains and even bank accounts to find " Who Aunt Betty married. "

Finally, we crack it. It was John Smith, 1872 in Wandsworth.  Great! We look up that happy event on A.com.  Add their record of the record to our ("Private") trees and, Ker Ching!!! Every free loading name collector out there gets notified! " Steve's found her. Here ye go ..... Stitch that into ye own site. Back soon with more. He's on a roll. "  >:(

What next? They'll start showing the ŁK's worth of Certificates I have on there?

No. I want my tree OFF ANCESTRY! I now just need to hear about some Reliable Host and how to get my stuff there.

Yes, I believe this topic came up a short while ago, I can't find the thread.

I think the answer is no - there isn't a place where you can upload your tree in private.  Unless you host your own website.

Ihave a tree on tribalpages.com. Although it is not private Ican if I wish make it so, just make sure you remove it from their list of trees as well as making it private. Beware, I have a really private one on tribalpages as well, and I cant find it, keeps directing me to the  one iI use most.[the only one I use now]

 'Thanks' for that.

Now excuse me whilst I just scrape my dinner off my screen!  ;D

Quite honestly? I'm just starting to wonder if it's worth having ones private stuff on line At All.

I mean; Surely, even if I bury my stuff away on my own .com, Google will come find Aunt Betty's name and  direct people straight to me?  ???

I have mine on Family Tree Maker.  Having experienced a similar problem, this is the only way I can see to keep it totally private.  You can let anyone you choose have information you want them to see.

KateW; You're the one for me!  ;) Please tell me more. Here or via PM.

Perhaps PM would be easier?

With tribalpages , supposedly, you are able to choose wether google can find you or not, as long as you are not on tribal pages search list. there is a link to my site on my profile. It is free, you get extra's if you pay.
