Hi Annie

Reading your previous post ~

Am I correct in saying that you have NO New Zealand paperwork saying that his mother was called Ellen Burke NOR any paperwork to say that he was from Annaghdown ?

Tara

You are right Tara. I am following this lead due to a granddaughter being called Ellen. I know definitely from marriage cert that Michael was from Galway, father was Thomas and year of birth approx. I am not saying they are mine but researching to see.

Thanks
Annie

As Shane told you a few years back a lot of Galway parish records don't go back as far as the time period you are researching so it"s very possible that your Michael is from elsewhere in Galway.

Have you tried NZ newspapers for any mentions of Michael, an obit or the like ?

You need his Mum's name and a townland on NZ paperwork first.

Research all possible relations in the area to see if any mention a townland in Galway.

Oh and Menlo House would be Menlo Castle.

People from Annaghdown would travel to Menlo by boat along Lough Corrib.

It cut the travel time to Galway City considerably.

Good Luck

Hi Tara

Yes checked all papers for Michael previously and rechecked marriage and death certs today. Just Galway mentioned.

Only relation I have found locally is Mary Jane PHILLIPS, his niece. She is living with the family on electoral rolls etc . So now to find out who her father was. Unfortunately she was a spinster so no marriage cert to give me clues.

Thanks for you advice
