A couple of years ago I was asked by a Canadian friend to photograph the house her grandparents had lived in, in Brampton, Cumbria.
She gave me the name of the house and the road.
I duly found the house, its name prominently displayed. I decided to ask permission to photograph it.
It was lucky I did - the most helpful occupant explained that the house name had been brought from their previous house over the road some 20 years earlier! It was that which my friends grandparents had lived in!
If I hadn't asked for permission I would have photographed the wrong house
