Baptism Certificate. Completed

I have a certificate of baptism for myself, I was baptized in Staveley Zion Church in 1956, but my brother does not have one.
What I would like to know is, how do I find out if my two younger brothers were baptized there, and from where can I get a copy of their baptism certificates.
I think that the Zion Church has been demolished, so I can't start there.
My brother would like to know if he was baptized, or was it just me?

Hi,
The Original Registers of Baptisms 1877-1968 for Staveley, Zion Chapel, Barrow Hill (Primitive Methodist)
are held at the County Record Office, Matlock, Derbyshire.

You can view these records by contacting the record office and  booking a Microfilm Reader.
Not sure how you would go about obtaining a Bpt. Certificate, but after confirming that a Bpt actually
took place, I would inquire at your nearest Primitive Methodist Church who may be able to assist
with information on how to obtain a certificate.

All archives will produce you a certified copy of any entry within the registers for the same price as a BMD cert.

Hi,
The Records are on microfilm at Matlock, so if visiting yourself you can print off a copy of the actual
entry for about 60p, this of course will cost more if you do DO NOT visit because it involves Staff time
for searching, printing and posting.

This is still only a copy of the entry in the Church Register not the same as a Baptism Certificate.

Thank you both for your help, it looks like I will have to go to Matlock Record Office, to find out for sure.
I have been thinking of making a trip there, but need to get all my information together first, and make sure I have a free day, as I will probably be there for some time.

How many churches actually gave baptism certificates out?  Isn't it just a non conformist thing?

Hi,

Most churches gave Bpt Certificate in the period in question , I have one and its C of E.

Do not know when the practice began, or if churches still give these toady.

Hi,

Anglican churches do still give a Baptism certificate these days - often it's a card with the details of the person baptised, the parents (if it's an infant baptism) and the godparents. You can request a full certificate from the church, which looks more like a traditional certificate in that it's quite wide and thin (like a Marriage Certificate).
