on 1851 there is Jane Hamilton, Servant (at the residence of the Marquis of Queensbury no less) in Cummertrees born 1823, this corresponds withe the age of Jane wife of John Barker on the 1861 census
but name is Hamilton not Howells

little james was also disabled maybe polio was rife then that family seems to have lost a few fairly young people in a short time will see if i can find john csc

have you got janes death cert it should tell you if she had a previous husband she is possibly still in england 51 do you know what area she came from  csc

jane's dcert does not indicate any previous marriage and the census she is on just says 'england' so there are no clues to what region she is from
I think I now have followed ALL male descendants of Alexander Tweedie and Mary Hair to their deaths or to 1901, all found in every census, and linked on ancestry tree, except:
