birth - Mary Beavers (India)
« on: Monday 26 October 09 14:15 GMT (UK) »
My father has asked if I would post a note on here asking if anyone could assist him in tracing a birth of a Mary Beavers whom he believes she was born in India.

Her parents were Edis Beavers (soldier) Margaret Barry - married in 1897 co. Cork, Ireland. Edis died in 1908, Colchester so its obviously probable that she was born between 1897 and 1908.

Any help would be great.

Hi

In your previous post you said her name was Gertrude - is this a different daughter?

Edis had a daughter called Gertrude (born in India),

Has your father now confirmed that the Margaret he found on the 1911 census is the correct entry

Ita quite possible - my father did find that death in BMD, however he has found a Margaret Beevers (widowed) in the 1911 census, he has no evidence as such that she could be the wife of Edis but he believes that it is her just on a whim.

That entry should have both daughters on it and should show their respective birthplaces

Yes, I should have said her full name was Gertrude Mary Beavers. I believe we have now found her in the 1911 census, living in an institute in Fulham, London. She is listed as Gertrude Beaver. She was 6 years old and so she would have been born around 1905. Her place of birth states Bellerey. I am confident that this should read Bellary, which is in India.

Her mother Margaret (nee Barry) is working as a domestic cook at an address in Staines, Middx.

If anyone can be more specific over the birth I would be deeply obliged.

Many thanks.

Regimental Birth Indices:

Vol 295 page 205:
James R, b. Bangalore, 1898, father RA
Mary M, b. Bangalore, 1900, father RA
Gertrude, b. Bellary, 1905, father RA
Edis, b. Colchester, 1907, father RA

Vol 479 page 4:
James R, b. Bangalore, 1898, father RA
Mary M, b. Bangalore, 1900, father RA
Elizabeth (can't read middle initial), b. Bellary, 1902, father RA
Gertrude, b. Bellary, 1905, father RA

Vol 553 Page 40:
James R, b. Bangalore, 1898, father RA
Mary M, b. Bangalore, 1900, father RA
Elizabeth (can't read middle initial) , b. Bellary, 1902, father RA
Gertrude, b. Bellary, 1905, father RA

Why there are multiple registrations I'm not sure but it's not unusual to see this in the Regimental birth indexes.

In 1911, James Robert Beavers appears to be in Dover (in some sort of institution), and there's a Mary Beavers in an institution in Hackney of the right age.
Mary M. Beavers probably m. Alfred J. Pinnock in 1924

Thank you very much for your information on Gertrude Mary Beavers, it would appear to comply with the person of the same name that we found in the 1911 cenus.
