It might be wise to be a little bit cautious of this detail on a death cert - as the accuracy of the age depends on the informant....

Thank you, you could well be right.  I will see if I can obtain some other information from the relative who told me about her name change, as I certainly think the one you found is still worth looking at.

One of my grandmother consistently told us she was born in 1898 - eventually found her baptism two years earlier. (she had no civil record ...but that's another story)

even though the year may be out a little bit, I presume her family knew her birthday... so we can probably rule out that Oct-Dec record. Do you have Annie/Johanna on any census returns ?

I'll widen the search years a bit and see if there are any promising first quarter matches..

I have checked England/Wales Census and found nothing, have to assume she came over to England just before she was married.  As she was married in 1904 I did try a search of the 1901 on the address she gave on her marriage certificate, this appeared to be a boarding house with quite a few Irish but she was not living there in 1901.

Looking back through the notes I took from my relative, she lived with her daughter for the last years of her life and in an adjoinging flat for many years prior to this, and it was her who registered her death.  However I feel you could be right regarding the year, as I have a copy of her marriage certificate and on this she says she was 19 in December 1904.  If the year date for her birth was correct she would have been 20 (nearing 21).

Like you, looking at so many census over the years, the ages of relatives seem to change every 10 years!

I do also have to query some of the info I received as again on her marriage certificate she states her father as Charles William Culhane, but the relative told me that her father was James Culhane - all very confusing as I do know that I have the correct marriage certificate.

Once more thank you for your help.
Carla

The 1901 Irish census is due online on the National Archives web soon (early next year) - hopefully Annie/Johanna will be listed there... maybe with her family

I did this Search on https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp and as you can see only 1 possible for that year....did you check the other possible?

also click Marriage or Deaths if needed.
