Hi,

Have been looking at it again, and was wondering if the descender of the 'g' is actually an ascender from the line below?  If that is possible, Bishopston (Bishopton) would be the best fit.

Where was the census taken?  If within Renfrewshire, then I would expect the enumerator would know the locality and how to spell it (though no guarantees!).  Also, check other entries of surrounding pages to see if the same scribble appears but is clearer.

If taken out of Renfrewshire, enumerator is relying on the handwriting and spelling of the person filing in the census.  Is he literate?  Has he signed BMD certificates?  Though, this is no guarantee either.  Often wondered how someone who signs X on BMDs can complete a census form, often for many family members...
