Hi Sarah

Apols if this has already been answered, but on your website you asked where Irishtown was...
there's an Irishtown Post Office listed on Google:

Address:  Irishtown,Clonmel,Co. Tipperary
Hours:  Mon to Fri 9.00-1.00 & 2.00 - 5.30 Sat 9.00-1.00
Phone:  052-21916

Don't know if that's the one. :)

best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply regarding my photograph  ;D

http://web.archive.org/web/20070422005539/http://sarah.rootschat.net/index.php?id=7

It is still an ongoing question......

It is connected to the Mackay side of the family of which the area I would be looking at would be Manchester or Ireland.

I have been using the Post Office as a clue and also it may be number 1 or it just could be L. D. Kennedy.

I should try to find out the full address of the post office you suggested.

Thank you Paul and glad you liked my photograph  ;D

It seems there are also Post Offices in Irishtown, Co Mayo and Irishtown, Co Athlone, and there is an Irishtown in Dublin ...  Not to mention elsewhere in England and around the world.  One site I found on Google mentioned Irishtown as referring to the modern day Manchester district of Collyhurst.

I can't really make out 'Irish' on the photo (town and Post Office are fine).  Does the name on the door behind the people ('& Luna'?) give any clues.  When you blow it up, can you see anything in the shop windows which might give a clue?  Can you read what's on the Post Box?

Judy

Is it the window at the side that you think says 'Irishtown'?  I thought it looked more like 'Best In Town'.

Hi Scotsmum,

Yes it is this window that I read "Irish town" never thought anything different but this may be due to what I was told when it was passed to me.

"This is from your Mackay side,(this bit true) don't know who they are but they have irish connections......"
