You never know when something new will turn up.
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 19:31 GMT (UK) »
I don't know what FindMyPast has added to their system since last I looked but I just found my dad (George Henry Caswell)'s first trip to Nigeria in 1951!

Family stories told that he travelled out on his own a couple of years before he moved his family out there and the list confirms it. He first went out in 1951. Then he came back in 1953 to collect the rest of the family, mum and my eldest brother. Finally, there's a trip just after my sister was born in 1954.

Sadly I don't have a subscription so I don't know what month in 1951. My brother was born in August so I don't know if dad was there at the birth or not.  ???

Keep checking those websites people!! You never know when something new will turn up.

I am new on this site, but interested in knowing more about passenger lists.  Could you tell me what FindMyPast means?  How can I access and search?  (I have tried all sorts of lists that are in Ancestry.com)

I am looking for a ship to America, or maybe Canada, about 1851-1852 carrying both James Mercer b1831 and Elizabeth McLean or McLane b1830.  James Mercer was from County Tyrone, Ireland.  Our family folklore is that these two met on the ship to America and in 1852 they were married in New York.

Thank you, Judy

Hi there Judy.

FindMyPast stands for Find My Past http://www.findmypast.com/welcome.jsp

you can pay per view or sign up for a subscription. It's the website that has the 1911 census on it now.

Ships lists for migration only cover the period 1890- 1960 on there at the moment.

Paul you are so right. I just found out that my 3xgreat grandad emigrated after his wife died to be with a daughter. No wonder why I spent ages but always failed to find a death in England now I know why. He buggered off to the USA.
