Mckeowen Family
« on: Friday 06 November 09 20:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for info on the Mckeowen Family who ran boxing booths in the fairgrounds in the early/mid 1900's.
My Great Uncle was Sam Mckeowen who married Hester (or Esther) Gratton in 1915 in Warminster.
Hester died in 1999 aged 101 in Andover Hants.
I believe they had two sons, Patrick born 1920,  and Bernard.
I think Pat took over the Booth from his Father, but the time scale I don't know.
Sam was my fathers uncle, and Pat was his cousin.
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Chris Edwards

Hi Shirley,
What a pleasant surprise. From what I can gather you are my First Cousin 1x removed.
You would have been my fathers cousin, you probably knew him as Kitchener (or Kitch)
I hope you are well and if possible you might be able to fill in a few gaps for me.
If you want to contact me direct, my email is:

Here's something to post about, Chris; Just tell me if ye think there's any earthly possibility of ye McKeowens being anything to do with the McKeon (Pronounced the same as yours) people found in Co. Leitrim ?

Couldn't help but notice the Patrick in there!  ;)

Hi Steve G,
I wouldn't know if we might have common ancestors McKeowen/MCKeon, but I can confirm that in my searches I have come across quite a few Variations in spelling.
My Grandmother was a Mckeowen, and her Father was Samuel William Mckeowen born in Co Tyrone around 1838. His father was called Patrick Mckeowen. (No other details available) Samuel  died in 1902. On various censuses he was listed as " army Pensioner" as well as " labourer". In all he had 9 Children, including Sam Mckeowen who was mentioned in the original post.
I am hoping to get a few more details from Shirley, if of course she has any.
Good luck with your searching,
Chris Edwards

Hi Steve G,
I was just trawling thru the Surname index for McKeowen, and there was only one other entry.
It is someone in New Zealand. Look at the Parrot Family website.
I'm sure they are not related to me, but I noted that her BMD record quoted showed her name as
"McKeon".
There are a total of 10 McKeowens in the family tree, I also just noticed Many McKeon mentioned.
Just a chance I suppose.
Hope it helps
Chris
