Hi,
I've got a Michael Sexton (b.1855, Mukla, Clare, Ire) m. Mary Fitzgerald (b.1857). As they had a son, also called Michael and it looks like they either went to USA or Oz, I'm wondering if this is some kind of connection?  Many families carried the father's name down!

Hi JaffaBib
Sorry to say not my Michael Sexton.
But I have found out from the shipping records that Michael SEXTON's fathers name was MATTHEW SEXTON.
I have no idea what his mother's name was.
Thanks for the help.

I dont know if you have details on the location already, but Clondagad is a civil parish, and it's parish church (Church of Ireland) is located within the townland of Knockalehid, adjacent to Clondagad House.  See  townland of Knockalehid/Clondagad village    (select the Historic 6" option to see the townland clearly. The townland borders are shown in red, civil parish boundaries are in green. 1st edition maps are from c1820/1840 )

See also : Clondegad Civil Parish  (Samuel Lewis 1837)

You didn't mention a religion for your Sexton family ?

The townland is in the RC parish of Kilchrist

RC baptism and marriage records for the parish go back to 1846 - see RC Parish of Kilchrist (Irish Times)

The only Church of Ireland records I can locate for the parish are marriages from 1845 onward (so probably civil records), and burials from 1882 on. These are available in the Representative Church Body Library in Co. Dublin
