The Stanbrooks of Longparish
« on: Saturday 07 November 09 19:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for any information on the Stanbrook family of Longparish.  A branch of this family moved to Harmondsworth, Middlesex probably in the late 1700's early 1800's and married into my family.  At present I have two Stanbrook families but believe they are probably closely related.

Does anyone know if the parish records are on line anywhwere as I live in South West Wales?

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks

Need some names to work on, wildtech.  ;)

Stephen & Mary's family or John & Mary?

Or Stephen & Sarah?

Not so easy  ;)  A number of other Stanbrooks in Hampshire, not just in Longparish and there is no guarantee thay they stayed put!

The absolute known people are William Stanbrook b1798 Longparish, Hampshire and Stephen Stanbrook b1826 Longparish, Hampshire.  This comes from census records.

I have the marriage record for Stephen to Mary Weekly in  1852 in Harmondsworth, Middlesex which gives his father's name as Stephen a labourer.

There is a submitted record for the christening of William Stanbrook on familysearch which gives his parents as Stephen and Mary.

William married Elizabeth Mary and a submitted record on familysearch gives the date as 12/10/1826 and Elizabeth's maiden name as Whyatt.  William and Elizabeth had a son Thomas b1828 in Colnbrook, Buckinghamshire and a daughter Elizabeth b1831 in Langley, Buckinghamshire.

Stephen worked on the railways in London.  Thomas went to New Zealand and after having failed as a miner ran a number of hotels.  He finally returned to Engalnd in around 1897 and ran the Five Bells in Harmondsworth.  Elizabeth it seems never married and died in 1856 in Islington.  The reason Thomas returned from New Zealand was "... to receive a large fortune left him by a wealthy relative lately deceased."  There is no proof but this MAY have been his sister.

William was the tax assesor in Harmondsworth.

Thanks Nell that adds greatly to what I have.  Pity it doesn't directly connect the two families.  I can see that it will be a branch I whittle away at piece by piece.   ;D

I think you will find that Stephen who married in 1809 is elder brother of William baptised in 1797.

Stephen Stanbroke baptised 9 Jun 1783 in Longparish, parents Stephen & Mary.

Their siblings appear to be:

Elizabeth 27 Dec 1774
Sarah 10 Nov 1776
Mary 4 Jun 1781
Charlotte 25 Dec 1785 (Stanbroke)
Dorothy 11 May 1788 (Stanbroke)
Sophia 23 Nov 1790
Robert 25 Dec 1791
Harriet  28 Sep 1794

This is great stuff Nell - Thank you so much.   ;D

Stephen Stanbrook b1826 married my second cousin 4times removed but it seems his cousin Thomas may have known my great great aunt and uncle and could have influenced their decision to immigrate to New Zealand.  And all this started by discovering a living relative in Illinois, USA through RootsChat!

Does anyone have information on Robert Stanbrook, born1823. Married Mar Ann Louisa Ilott in 1850 in Bloomsbury. I am trying to relate to the Stanbrooks of Long Parish.
