Thank you for checking Suz,
It certainly looks possible, the girls ages are good aren't they? The marriage below could be worth investigating, Mount Pleasant is in the general area.
So grateful for your input.
Jean

Hi Luzzu and thanks also,
They look the same family as Suz found and could be.
I did check the marriage regs at the library and found that one, Sarah Jones and John but it was very difficult to read, very faint, his occupation was carter, so I put it to one side. That marriage took place at St John the Baptist Toxteth Park.

Many thanks to you both for the new info.  :)

Oh my goodness, thanks so much to you both for all the new info.

I will have to investigate further now I have all the fresh openings. Which would give me the best chance do you think?

Much obliged for your interest.

It may e an idea to check Jane's marriage and see what occ is given for her father

If we have the correct John Helm - he could have changed his occupation - or even have been a dock labourer -  the children would only know his occupation by what they had been told - they would have been quite young when he died

I'd agree with Suz - that would be a good way to start.

After that I would order the the John Helm/Sarah Jones marriage cert as that should confirm if he is a widower.  I think you said you had already checked this marriage but was that on the parish records which were difficult to read?

You've got plenty to go at now  ;D.  Hope you will let us know how you go on.

Best of luck.

Yes Luzzu, it was the parish record .
I have just dug it out and would you believe it, I hadn't noticed before, he was a widower at 26! Clever girl!
It is so easy to miss these little things, which is a good lesson for me.
Thanks again and will let you know any findings.
Jean ;)

I am resurrecting this topic to thank suzard and Luzzu for all their help.
I visited the record office and as you can see from the extract of Jane's marriage in 1879 her father, John, was a Steward..which links in with the mariner on her sister Sarah's cert. 1880.
Therefore, he must have died during '79/'80.

I have used the information from John's marriage to Sarah Jones and gone back another generation, to yet another John Helm his grave is in Toxteth Park Cemetery.
So there you go, I am most grateful to you both. ;)
