Little/Thompson - Ballymena
« on: Monday 09 November 09 07:45 GMT (UK) »
My gt grandfather Wm Little Married Annie Thompson 24/7/1884 CoI in N'town L'avady Co L'derry
Robert his first born (my grandfather) 1885 in L'vady grew up in B'mena as did his children.
My aunt told me her father (Robert) had sisters Cissie, Minnie & bro Harry (who lived in the B'mena area)which I am unable to find. I am not sure where they were born as my aunt said Wm, married and lived in L'vady as he had to travel where the railway sent him. I have searched the 1911 census but cannot make any connections. Help please, where do I go from here. Thanks
Little, Mullan/en/in, Johnston, Hyndman, Co Antrim
Thompson, Co Londonderry

Have you been able to find your grandfather Robert Little in the 1911 census yet? Cissie and Minnie could be nicknames which will make them harder to find.

It's easier to search census with an age but I tried looking for brother Harry by searching for H*ry (to catch Henry and Harry) L*tle (for Little, Lyttle, Litle, etc.) but only one close is this family which might fit except for dates-
34 Canning St. Upper, Belfast
William Little, railway engine driver
wife Annie married 23 years 7 children/6 living
dau. Maggie 22
son Henry 18 railway engine cleaner
dau. Jane 16
dau. Sarah 14
Listed as all born Co. Antrim but they could have misunderstood form.

Thank you for your responce aghadowey. I did see the family in Canning st but the marrage being 23 years would have had them marry in 1888 & not 84.
I agree with the nicknames and have tried many variations of the same
I have not found Robert but found his wife my grandmother living in Geoffrey st  B'fast with 3 of her children & her brothers family. My grandfather died POW and my grandmother was informed of this 1918 in B'mena where she lived in what  I/we knew as the family home. Perhaps when the 1901 census come out we might learn more. Thank you for you time.

Thank you aghadowey for you intrest, you are on the ball.
I have all this information photos etc. It is just the rest of the family I am stuck on.
No info on Roberts father William other than that he worked for the railway cleaner/ engine driver. No info on Roberts mother Annie (Thompson).
Same aunt told me Wm had 3 sisters Mary Ann, Sarah & Cissie, unable to find them!
Maybe I should contact CoI in Limavady see where it leads me?
Thanks again

Might be better to wait for 1901 census to come online (in the next few months) to see where they are and see what names children are listed under.

Hi,
As a private project I have taken the names off Limavady War Memorial and I am building a picture of each of the men who died in WW1. One of the names was R. Little and using the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site I believe that this is your Robert Little. A Limavady notice board site also gave details of Robert from a researcher in Australia who was looking for further information in 2008 and I assume this was you. If it was not you please let me know and I will give you details.
