Italian Ancestry - Bachini
« on: Monday 09 November 09 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello.  I'm posting on behalf of my boyfriend.  His ancestors were from Lucca near Florence in Italy.  They were two brothers that came over together we think in the 1860s.  Their names were Eduardo Bachini b.abt 1839 in Lucca and Pietro Giovanni Bachini b.abt 1840 in Lucca.  Their father's name was Santi Bachini - a farmer and woodcarver.  This information was from the marriage certs of Eduardo and Pietro.  We have the family tree complete from when they arrived in England (Bachini being an easy name to follow here!) but is there any way of finding the Italian records i.e. their births or siblings etc?  Can anyone help?

 :)Hello,

Have you tried contacting the "comune " (the city) of Lucca ;
go to the website : www.comuni-italiani.it/046/

fax of the city administration : (00 39) 0583 442505
Tel : (00 39) 0583 44 22

FOR INFORMATION :

In Italy the information are registered in the municipality services (stato civile), but in the past all was detained by the parish ;

try to contact the bishop team at the "cancelleria", and ask for the certificate of baptism, etc.

Fax : 00 39  0583 430 944 ; mail : segretaria {--at--} diocesilucca.it

to retrieve archives : cancelleria {--at--} diocesilucca.it

for more information go to the site : www.diocesilucca.it

the "diocesi" is like a zone including many towns with their parishes, and all are under the supervision of a bishop ; all the documents are kept at the "cancelleria".

good luck !

franciscus ;D

Thank you for the response.  I will try all of the above!  Do you know if Bachini is a common name in Italy?

Hi.  Have we spoken before?  Pietro Giovanni Bachini came to England from the Lucca area in 1859 with his brother.  He was my Grandfather.  I am the head, for a better word, but not the oldest of this family in England.  I have been to the place where the Bachini Family came from a few times now.  I have the records of the family but only back to 1680 and have seen the records and paid a lot of money to do so and it has only taken me forty odd years.  The Italians don't seem to care about the family that's gone, just the present... contact me.  My name is John Bachini.
