"Leek Times" - Newspaper
« on: Tuesday 10 November 09 05:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I was wondering if someone has access or knows of an online access to historical copies of the Leek Times. I am hoping that the Leek Times has an obituary listed for my grt grt grt grandmother. I have been unable to find a marriage for her and ultimately can't find her Nee name, so I am hoping that there is an obituary with some extra information. In 2007 I managed to travel from Australia to visit Leek and was able to look at some copies on Microfische, but in my excitement completely forgot about checking for her name. If someone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Her name is Margaret Barr and she died 17th December 1882, and was buried in the Leek Cemetery.

Thanks in advance - fingers crossed xxxx

Hi Jackie,

Yes that's her. Her husband John died 14 March 1872 and was buried in Hanley. Their son Joseph was born in the USA (supposedly) and I found a very nice obituary for Joseph when he died, so I'm hoping that Margaret had one as well in the Leek Times.

Hi

The Leek Post & Times is a weekly tabloid newspaper sold in the market town of Leek and surrounding parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands. It was originally founded in 1870 as the Leek Times.

When I was looking for a death notice/obituary for one of my ancestors I contacted the Leek Library, Nicholson Institute,Stockwell Street,Leek, ST13 6DW who were extremely helpful.
