Birth - same name - same year - same quarter - same place
« on: Wednesday 11 November 09 09:49 GMT (UK) »
Hoping someone might be able to help ...

Have William Henry Collins born 1876 in Southwark looked on the indexes and found 2 of William Henry registered in June quarter of 1876 in St Saviors (Southwark) ..... know the William Henry I'm looking for his father was William Henry too from marriage cert.

Is there any way of finding out which is my William Henry without having to buy both birth certificates ... know that's the obvious route.

Any ideas .... thanks

Ordering from the GRO: specify that you want the one of the two refns with Fathers name William Henry.

You do this by clicking on 'Reference checking' box at the bottom of the page you complete with the details of name Dist / Page / Vol etc.

This will open the opportunity to specify the 2nd Refn for the man you have.

It will cost £3.00 extra - ie £10 for one Cert effectively.

Many thanks,

Wasn't aware you could do that .... know it sounds a bit tight but any money saved at the moment is helpful

Hi

This is probably the baptism of one of the two William Henry Collins

St Alphege Southwark Baptised 21st May 1876
William Henry Collins parents Henry and Mary Ann, 16 Isabella Street, father's occupation brass finisher.

What was William Henry's father's occupation on his marriage certificate?

The topic guide at the top of the London and Middlesex boards

ENGLISH CERTIFICATES – HELPFUL INFORMATION

gives further information on the GRO checking system

'When ordering a certificate from the GRO a check can be requested against relevant details
e.g. for a birth the names of one or both parents.

If any of the references checked do not match, a certificate will not be issued and the GRO will refund part of the fee: http://tinyurl.com/lzv96m'

Hi

No further information from the marriage certificate such as witnesses that could help pinpoint him further? Have you been able to track him back on censuses?

Thanks Jennifer but not mine ....

Valda

Think mine are at 34 Zoar St, Southwark in 1881

William Collins 34 .. coal carter .. b. Colchester
Emma              31                            Colchester
William               4                            Lambeth
Mary A                3                           Lambeth
Caroline              1                           Lambeth

In 1891 family at same address but now William's occupation given as general labourer and all children given as born in Southwark.

Can't find marriage for William and Emma ? ...
