Bradley / Stevenson
« on: Thursday 12 November 09 15:24 GMT (UK) »
I have found a marriage of Samuel Bradley to a Anne Stevenson at Chesterfield    15 Feb. 1819. I would be grateful if someone could look up this marriage, to find ages and such. Do they appear in subsequent censuses etc....?
                      kind regards Alan.

Are you looking for the marriage of samuel Bradley b S Normanton????

I answered one of your topics regarding this Samuel - you were looking for his parents - I found a christening IGI extracted stating parents Robert

You replied that this must be the wrong Samuel

Then in later topics other RootsChatters have given you the same IGI record and you seem to have accepted that this is the same Samuel????

Do you have further information re Samuel???

There is 1841 census

Hucknall Notts
Hannah Beardmore 40 Farmer yes
Ann 13 yes
Samuel Bradley 55 Independant NO
HO107 861 9 718

Possibly could be samuel of the marriage you found - but no wife with him and couldn't find him in 1851 to see if he was a widower and p.o.b.

Hi Suz,
Thanks for your time. Samuel Bradley has been an enigma for me. I know he had children at Norton, Derbys. Mary Ann b,1828, Henry b. 1824 and Samuel b. 1833. he died in Sheffield 1843 aged 56 and is buried at St James, Norton. No sign of a wife. I have Sam jnr's marriage cert of 1859 at Sheffield. Sam jnr is down on it as Samuel Goodhand Bradley. His father is on it as just Samuel Goodhand.( Traveller)
The Bradley surname is missing. Could this have missed off accidentaly? I realise a lot of people from rural areas moved into Sheffield at that time for the work so he could have come from almost anywhere, but I have a hunch he was from NE Derbys. Thanks for your time and I will keep digging!
                               regards Alan.

this looks like them in 1841- but all stating they were b in Yorks

Huley
Nether hallam Sheffield
Samuel Bradley 55 Pin blade griner
henry 15
Mary 12
Samuel 7

all b in county
Ho107 1334 Book 1 page 1

Quite possibly Bradley was missed off the certificate

Suz,
Thanks for that, it is appreciated. Looks like the "Huley" should read "Heeley"in Sheffield. But was it in Sheffield in 1841 or Derbyshire?
Does the ref. no. refer to Yorks or Derbys.?

sorry- 1841 was Sheffield Yorkshire

and all stated they were born in county ( which means Yorkshire)

but don't worry too much the 1841 census is often a little vague - sometime the "yes" or "no" isn't filled in - other times the page is just filled in as "yes" - and of course -many times it is correct

Samuel senior's marriage has been transcribed on freereg.org

Chesterfield St Mary and All Saints 15 Feb 1819 Samuel Bradley of this parish and Ann Stevenson of this parish, witnesses William Ramskar and John Turner, married by banns.

I don't think that helps your dilema though, good luck
