1841/51 Berwickshire Census
« on: Friday 13 November 09 07:29 GMT (UK) »
Little info but can anyone help with 1841/51 census lookup for Brown family?

Place of census possibly Coldringham or Lamberton
James Brown married (no age known husband of Margaret)
Margaret Brown wife age 53 born Scotland.

In 1861 Census for Berwick Upon Tweed Margaret Brown was widow age 73 born Scotland and living with son-in-law.

1851 Margaret MAY have been widow.

Thanks for that Beckey.
Unfortunately not the correct Margaret Brown. I have her return from 1861 and she was 73, widow and living with her son-in-law.

She must have been living elsewhere.

Thanks for your help.

Doesn't your 1861 census give where she was living at that time, where she was born and the children?

In 1861 Census for Berwick Upon Tweed Margaret Brown was widow age 73 born Scotland living with son-in-law.

Unfortunately she was an in-law so only gives her daughter. This info does not help me to find rest of family!

I want to find her or her husband in 1841 and 1851 so I can trace her children.

That looks like Northumberland, according to "FamilySearch" there was a James Brown married a Margaret Bookless 13/3/1826 Coldingham and a James Brown married a Margaret Middlemiss 15/8/1806 Duns.

The 2 marriages in 1840 Coldingham/Lamberton could make her 53 then!!

Thanks Beckey for all your help.

I`ll note 1806 as poss.
Coldingham is where daughter Margaret Brown married  in 1832. So 1826 is out!
The marriage info gave fathers names, James Brown but not mothers.
I guess it is not possible to find them from records. Hence the need for Census records!

Hi O,

The 1806 looks likely, but there are no matches 1841 Duns/Cockburnspath/Coldstream for James/Margaret that are near the age.

Ridpath/Redpath nothing  in Coldingham for them, will have another look at above.
1841 Hume/Ladykirk/langton/Abbey St Bathans/Westruther/Swinton/Chanellkirk/Bunkle/Eyemouth/Coldingham,
nothing for either family.

Unless anyother readers have a suggestion.
