Wyche, Colwall LOOKUP Request
« on: Saturday 14 November 09 22:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm an Australian living in America, but asked by an English colleague for help with a family history problem they have.

1911 census I have Alice BRIGHT as 17, single, domestic servant born
at The Wyche, Colwall.

I found on the web a 'Wyche Free Church' in Upper Colwall. I was wondering if someone could check for an Alice BRIGHT born abt 1893, possibly baptised in Wyche or Colwall?

Many thanks,
matt

Hi Matt,

There are these records but I can't see her on it, but it may come in useful for further refference.

Thanks Jim,

The link you provided has transcripts for St James the Great, Colwall (http://www.colwallchurch.org/welcome/about.html). I agree that while it shows BRIGHTs in the area, there is nothing close for Alice BRIGHT.

There is however Wyche Free Chruch, Upper Colwall (http://www.wychefreechurch.org.uk/) going since the 1850's, and I'm trying to see whether the BRIGHTs were perhaps attending there given the spcific reference to Wyche, Colwall on Alice's 1911 census.

cheers,
matt

Hi Matt,
The only birth reg I can see for an Alice is,

Births Dec 1893.
Bright Lilian Alice, King's N.    6c.   424.

Which looks like this one in Selly Oak. But it says she was born in Selly Oak, Worcestershire.

1901.
Alfred L Bright    32.
Alice Bright    31.
Lilian A Bright    7.
Margaret A Bright    2.
Walter J L Bright    6 months.

Jim.

Hi

It would be worth checking directly with the Wyche Free Church as they may have retained their registers. There is an email address on their website.

If they haven't retained their registers,  you will need to post your query on the Herefordshire page as the church is just over the border in that county.

My grandfather was born at The Wyche in 1902 and baptised at Great Malvern Priory so it might be worth looking there.

Do you know what happened to Alice after 1911?

Thanks I'll try following up. I'm still waiting to hear from the Wyche Free Church.

We're trying to work out Alice's fate, but we know she had a child in 1915. In fact that's all we know. There is a probable match later on in marriage records that we are pursuing also.

cheers
