1841 Stockport - Thorneley
« on: Friday 11 March 05 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

would it be possible for someone with the 1841 census for Stockport / Heaton Norris to look up Joseph Thorneley aged about 25 - 30 years?

He was probably born in Derbyshire so his birth would not be in Cheshire.

In 1851 he described himself as a brickmaker's labourer.

Regards

Jean Sandra

Hi
The 1841 for Heaton Norris was not produced along with the other Cheshire townships, I have a full set and its not there, its possibly with the Lancashire issues if its been done. The reg.district is 1841 HO107-582-..........
The good news is that I have just searched the 1861 for someone and came across him living in Nicholson Street just a short distance from Eliza Boulton.

HO107-2560-F11     3 Nicholson Street Heaton Norris

Thomas Bowden head widower 67 ag/lab born Heaton Norris
Joseph Thornily lodger married 49 ag/lab born New Mills

I did search for his marriage but cannot find it on the indexes I have.

Hi Peter,

many, many thanks for this. This guy was unbelievable. The mother of his children and the children were living nearby and yet in 1871 and 1881 he was living with them. In 1851 he was the the lodger!

What tangled webs they used to weave.

Regards
