Do you have a passenger list for HK-Syd ship? My father-in-law was on the TSS Awatea arrived in Wellington from Sydney 30/11/1939 and can't remember name of ship from HK to Sydney via Manila,Rabaul, Cairns, Brisbane he thinks.

Hi Rodney - My Australian friend ABC drew my attention to your query. Were you at the 75th Anniversary event in Auckland on Sunday? I hope you enjoyed it. Not sure what your father in law's name is. Please send me a private message and I will let you know how to get hold of the shipping between HK & Sydney. I guess you may know that the families stayed at King Nam Jang, at the Rocks, Sydney. However this ship looks like it had many Chinese on it - more than other one's I've seen.

Here's the list of people from Sydney to Wellington from the website

Hi Helen, yes both my father (Jack Wong) & father-in-law (Yick Hon Gee) were among the 44 refugees on stage for the 75th anniv lunch, great experience for them.
My father -in-law is listed on the Awatea 31st Nov 1939 as "Chu Hick Hon aged 11yr" but not sure of his listed name on the SS Taiping either the same or Chue Yick Hon or Gee Yick Hon.
cheers
Rodney

Looks like it might have been in port before 25 November 1939 - as it was still advertising on that date.

Do you know how long your F in L stayed in Sydney?
