Have you got the actual ship list and does it say where in Canada he was heading? (As opposed to the destination of the ship, which I presume was Montreal).

Montreal directories:
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/
 - in 1960 there is a Harold Hewitt, supervisor CNR, 2380 Chateauquay, but he is at that address back until 1947, so can't be yours.

Hi Jorose,
Thanks for replying.I have one page of the passenger list and it states Port at which passengers have contrated to land and typed in is Montreal, and in Country of intended future permanent residence they have typed Cananda.I am at a loss where to look, was there a place where emigrants were first taken to take all their details or after passport checks were they left to their own devices?.

http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-1983B8B/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths
Birth, marriages and deaths are the responsibility of each individual province in Canada - there is no central Canadian registry of this information as there is in Britain.  Therefore you get a variance across the country of what records are available.  If you think that this death record might be of interest to you there are people on this forum who are in BC and have access to looking up that information for you.  Kelowna is in the interior of British Columbia in the Okanogan Valley - if you google the name you will get lots of information as it is a popular holiday destination.

There are posters here who do look ups of British Columbia BMD records. If you go back to your initial post and edit the subject line to BC Look up someone could probably check out that death in Kelowna for you.

BTW, the index entry for Harold Hewitt indicates his middle name was James.
