James McBay Blacklaws
« on: Friday 20 November 09 11:15 GMT (UK) »
I have just started my family tree and I  was hoping someone out there can help me. My grandfather was James McBay Blacklaws, he married Dorothy Clyne Yeats in Benholm, Kincardine in 1944. I know they spent a lot of years in Johnshaven, as my father often talked about it. If anyone can give me some more information i would be very grateful thanks

Louisa

Hello

I have also just discovered and joined RootsChat.  I would be delighted to learn more, and hear from anyone about, my father's lineage.  His name was John Berry ("Jack") Blacklaws, and he was born in Blackford on 25.04.25.  He served in the Royal Marines, and was a professional hunter in East Africa before his death in 1965.

Thanks,

John Blacklaws

I am heading back up to Brechin next weekend and hopefully will be able to have a chat with my father who should be able to shed some light on the family connections..

I realise it was some time ago but I have just stumbled across this exchange about James McBay Blacklaws.  I believe he was my uncle - does anyone know if he had 5 sons?

hi Jetblack58

welcome to rootschat  :)

as it's possible the children are still alive i would ask anyone not to mention
their names on a post
you can use the personal message system , the little green scroll at the left
hand side of someones post , to send and receive private information
however you need to have posted at least 3 times to use this system.

best of luck in searching for your family history  :)

Louisa hi, your dad is my cousin.  Your great grandfather, my grandfather, was Benjamin Blacklaws and he married Sara Scales who was, I think, the stepdaughter of James McBay.  Your grandfather, my uncle, was named after him.  Does Dock Street ring a bell?  It will with your father.  Ask him if he remembers Alan's daughter (my father, not your uncle) insisting on combing his and his brothers' hair?  That was me!
