Birth lookup ALberta 1907 - Douglas WELCH
« on: Monday 23 November 09 19:16 GMT (UK) »
Good evening,

I understand that in Alberta there are no on-line Bmd data-bases, so I wonder if anyone could possibly help with  this one please:

I'm looking for the birth of Douglas WELCH, born very probably in June 1907 in Alberta - sorry I have no locality.

His parents were:
Arthur James WELCH b.1873 London, England
& Hattie Matilda MAYBERRY b. 1879 in Ontario

The couple were previously living in Oxford County, Ontario, where their first child, Max Clayton WELCH was born in 1901.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Nick

I live in Calgary, and I don't mind physically looking something up, but I've never done research here, so I don't know where to look.  If someone has knowledge of where to look, and can point me in the right direction, I don't mind doing it.

Let me know.

Good morning (well it is here in France !)

Many thanks for your reply and willingness to take the trouble to look for me.
I greatly appreciate it.

Often the best place to start is the Public Library, where they should have information on Bmd's. However, before physically going there, it would be perhaps prudent to give them a call first to see if they do have available records of this nature.

Perhaps also see what other local or Canada-based RootsChatters have to say on the subject too.

Once again, thank you for your kind reaction.

Nick

Based on the link that was provided, I wouldn't be able to do the search for you.

However, I could apply for a document at half the price that you can.  I don't mind making the application on your behalf, but you would have to figure out how to pay (I am assuming you don't want to send the money to me, a stranger, and hope that I do as you request).  It's up to you.

Good morning andarah,

I really appreciate your offer to get the document for me at half-price.

However, it does sound as if it's going to be complicated, and the information I'm looking for is not absolutely vital to my researches as it concerns a branch of my tree which is quite a way from the main trunk. I'm not going to die of frustration if I can't nail down this birth more precisely !

I guess we'd better leave it at that for the moment. Thank you all the same for your offer and time and trouble, which I have appreciated.

A search of the 1911 Census of Canada may find Arthur, Hattie and family in Vancouver, British Columbia. If you are interested I will visit the Alberta Provincial Archives to see if I can find information re the birth of Douglas.

Good evening CeBe,

Many thanks for your reply and offer of visiting the Provincial Archives.

I have tried looking up the 1911 Census for the family but haven't been able to find it on the BC link I was given. As far as I've been able to ascertain, the son, Douglas, was the only child to have been born in Alberta.

I think they must have moved to Vancouver around 1908/1909 as they do figure in the 1911 Census there, even if I haven't been able to find it for the moment.

I greatly appreciate your offer of help - when you have the occasion and the timeI would be very grateful if it's not putting you out of your way too much !

Thank you once again.

Nick
