Hi there,

I realise that this chain of messages finished a good few months ago, but I am interested in finding out more on these Morlands.  I am researching the line of Robert Morland (son of Robert Morland ~& Agnes Donaghew/Domagan) & Agnes Muir/Moore.

Anyone like to swap info?

Anna

Hi Anna,
I have bits of info on the Morlands, these are the only 2 MI's in the Kirkmaiden book.
A.M. Erected by Agnes MOORE in loving memory of her husband Robert MORLAND who died at Drummore Octr. 18th 1893 aged 64 years. Also the above Agnes MOORE who died at Drummore 7th March 1909 aged 71 years. "Thy will be done."
In loving memory of William MORLAND beloved husband of Margaret GRAHAM who died 31st October 1932 aged 72 years. Also the above Margaret GRAHAM who died 5th February 1938 aged 72 years. Also their niece Jessie Rennie MORLAND who died 29th June 1906 aged 21 years.
The only info I have on Robert son of Robert/Agnes is his birth from the IGI 29 Mar 1858.
You could try the Kirkmaiden Information Centre  http://www.mull-of-galloway.co.uk/attractions/kirkmaiden.html maybe they can help you.
Regards
Beannie

Hi Beanie,

Thanks so much for the information re epitaphs in Kirkmaiden.  What is the Kirkmaiden book?  Do you think there may be a Stoneykirk one too.  This familly seemed to be spread between the two communities.

Some of the family are known as McMorland, while some just Morland....can't find a continuity with each branch.

Thanks again,

Anna

Hi there! I realise this message is well past the last post (and I'm new!) but I am also working on the Robert Moreland/Agnes Muir branch. My grandmother was Maggie Moreland, daughter of Agnes and Robert's son James. I have Agnes' parents as William Muir & Agnes Pherson(?) does that match in?

Hi bladsgirl,
Welcome to Rootschat! you will find lots of friendly, helpful people.
I have a bit of info on William Muir and wife Mary (don't know her surname)
I have their children as
Mary 1827 Ireland, Wiliam 1830, John 1832, David 1835, Agnes 1838 and Margaret 1841 all born Kirkmaiden. I don't have James, so if you can give me any info I would be very grateful.
Robert Morland married Agnes Moore/Muir in 1857 and I have their children as
Robert 1858, William 1860, John 1862, Eliza Jane 1867, Alex 1869 and Agnes 1871.
I was only interested in Jane as you can see by my posts, but am naturally nosey and always get carried away with finding out about the family.
I have both William Muir and wife Mary both boprn in Ireland
Hope this helps
Kind regards
beannie

Hi Anna,
Robert Morland and Agnes Muir are my great, great grandparents! My line continues through their son James, who married Maggie Milroy Shaw - and it was their daughter Maggie who married my grandfather William McCubbin, Would love to help if I can!

Hi Beannie,
many thanks for your kind email! I don't quite understand how everything works but it was great to get your reply so quickly! I know what you mean about getting carried away - I find it totally addictive!
Where does Jane fit into your tree?
Most of my research so far has focussed on my dad's direct side which is McCubbin. Ive got back to the mid-1750's but as with so many of the families in the south west of scotland this takes me back to Ireland and I'm struggling to find out how you can access the Irish records?
Any ideas?
Best wishes
