The family was residing at College Green (Castletown) in 1841 though Thomas (a schoolmaster) was having a stay (lasted a few years - for contempt I think) in nearby Castle Rushen (the Island Prison) - there was a discussion on this family some time ago on http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulletin/index.pl?noframes - use the seach mechanism on that MB to find it.  Hugh Stowell name comes from the famous Minister (T E Brown had a brother Hugh Stowell Brown)
