England to Canada 1907
« on: Saturday 28 November 09 20:00 GMT (UK) »
I know my grandfather immigrated to Ontario Canada in 1907.

George Mather Hutchinson Bowey came across with his parents John and Jane Bowey on the Pretorian destined for Toronto.

I also know my grandmother Esther Elizabeth Bowey (nee White) came across on the Metagama in 1917 to be with her husband

She also made another trip on the Minnedosa Oct 9, 1920. I have her trip Manifest but am unable to locate the trip from Montreal or Quebec to Liverpool.

On her return trip she was travelling with her 8 month old son Alfred John Bowey.

How can I find the Manifest for the trip from Montreal to England??

Yes I noticed the ships name but when one searches how do you know what ship they are actually on at the time?

Sorry - I don't understand - she presumably got on the ship Georgic in New York and stayed on it until she arrived in Liverpool so that was the ship she was actually on at the time

Will try to explain myself better

Let's use George M H Bowey. I do know he immigrated to Canada.

Can I search using just his name or do I need to know the name of the ship

They are not searchable by passenger name, you must have a precise date of immigration or be prepared to browse through all the images
The National Archives of Canada (NAC) holds unindexed immigration records from 1865 to 1935. To find a passenger you will need to know an exact date of arrival

Not sure if that made any sense either

I would imagine you would have to search by name first to find which ship they travelled on and the date they travelled.

Otherwise - you would be searching the manifests of every ship that left for the USA/Canada on a year by year basis which could take forever.

Isn't that the truth. Unfortunately that is the way the National Archives of Canada works. It is like a lost cause if one has no idea.

Is there a list of places or websites that one can search by name. I know of the ShipsList but that is about it.

Thanks for the image you sent Greatly appreciated
