Hello Alison2763,

Thanks for your reply.

My Chinese gggfather was a gold miner & business owner (type of business unknown) at Mt Egerton in 1870's before moving to Teesdale where he was a storekeeper according to his Naturalization papers. He then moved to Sydney to establish market gardens & poultry farms.

He moved back to Vic in mid 1890's. I've searched the Melb Sands & McDougall by his known as & business names but can't find his name or address in 1890's. He may have lived outside of Melb. In late 1890's he sought permission to visit his Sydney businesses, which was grant on condition as he paid a 100pound bond. A lot of money in those days. All known correspondence was addressed to his Sydney business address. He returned to Vic as his bond was repaid. His address in Vic in 1890's is still a mystery. Do you know of any other directories in Vic to search?

We now live in Sydney & don't have any relatives in Vic. to assist with our Vic research. I'm awaiting a reply from Chinese museum in Melb.

We don't have any known deaths in Vic on paternal side of the family.

Regards,
abcsydney
