Seeking photos of Little Bourke St Melb 1850's-1900
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 02:42 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can view photos of Little Bourke St Melb 1850's -1900, between Exhibition & Elizabeth streets.

Also some of the lanes branching off Little Bourke Street don't exist anymore. Where would I find any history on those former lanes & properties?

I live in Sydney, so any local knowledge is welcomed.

Regards,
abcsydney

The Australian National Library has an online "Picturesearch" section.  I searched for Little Bourke St Melbourne and found some photos.  Many of them are 20th century but the last one is 19th century.  There are plenty of buildings shown which would have been built in the 19thC.  Unfortuantely it's not easy to find which ones are in the section of Little Bourke St you want.  :-\

I see Cando has already given this link in your other post.

There is a link on the ANL site to the Victorian State Library picture collection which is the one Alison has already given.

Do you want something specific. The area between Exhibition and Elizabeth streets is not all China Town. I have some contacts and visit there often. I will help if I have a bit more information.
