Peter CLARKE-Ships List
« on: Wednesday 02 December 09 20:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, after doing a great deal of my mothers side of the family tree I have now started to help my dad trace his side.
We have a fair bit of info on his side of the family. He got a lot of info himself by going into the Genealogy Centre in Cavan Town.
What we would like to find out is if his grandfather Peter Clarke went to America. He is not on the 1901 census so we think that he was in America by that stage. He is on the 1911 census as being a farmer on his own, so maybe he made a few pound before he came back to Cavan? He married later at the end of April 1911.
If anybody could give me a steer in the right direction I would be grateful :)
Peter was born in 1876 and was from Lakeland,Knockbride, Cavan. His parents were Michael Clarke and Rose Doughty. The family story is that he went to America and made his fortune but not sure how accurate it is! :-\

Many thanks Annette

the Ellis Island website may be the place to try - they have immigration records 1892 onwards. see : http://www.ellisisland.org/

Ellis Island website has passenger lists for New York 1892-1924. Other ports of entry might be Boston, Philadelphia or Canada (Quebec, Montreal, Halifax).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
