Bishop John Conroy
« on: Thursday 03 December 09 13:55 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on Bishop John Conroy.   I've been told that Bishop John Conroy is a distant cousin but I'm not sure how he is related. Here is what I know about him. He was born in 1819 in Clonaslee, Ireland. Hie came to the US at 14 years of age and studied in Montreal and Maryland. He became Bishop of the diocese of Albany in 1865. During his tenure he accomplished alot - he died in 1895. His funeral was at St. Patricks Cathedral in New York.  Any info regarding him would be appreciated.

Found out Bishop Conroy had a sister Mary Conroy married to a Michael Delaney.
He also had a nephew that was born circa 1848 named James Peyton.  James was born in Ireland and became a priest in the States and worked in the Albany, NY area.  A 1900 census says an Elizabeth Conroy is working for him - possibly a cousin.

A will of Bishop Conroy's mentions 5 nephews and 6 nieces.
