Hi Julie

You could look at the following for a little information (they are a reenactment society) http://www.33rdfoot.co.uk/ or the following army site http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/museums/0000000028-Duke-of-Wellington-s-Regiment-West-Riding-Museum.htm
As they have a museum it might be worth contacting them as the archivists love a challenge.....
Best wishes

Hi Julie and welcome to RootsChat !  :)

I found a Stephen McGarry on the Crimean Casualty list ... as families tended to serve with the same regiments ... just thought I'd mention it - in case he's one of yours !!

McGarry    Stephen    Private    2513    33rd Foot (Duke of Wellington's)    Killed in Action    Minor actions at Sebastopol    20 December 1854

I'm still looking for Terrence !

OK Julie ! ... this is what I found about the 33rd regiment ....

You may find that your Terence served in the 33rd Regiment during the Indian Mutiny. The 33rd Regiment went to the Crimea in 1852 and then on to quell the Indian Mutiny via Mauritius from 1857 to 1864 In 1865 they were back in Ireland !
Have you looked on the Regimental Indexes in Findmypast overseas section ? if not - that should help you trace any marriage or births. RI goes back to about 1780 and if he was possibly born/baptised around 1818 then he could have fought in the Crimea. The attestation papers will tell you his place and date of birth. If you can get to Kew then it's worth a search as you know it is 33rd Regiment. These early army papers are not online. You will either have to pay for a search or go yourself. Then you need to go through the army musters which gave so much detail on where he was every minute of his years in the army. If your Terence was in the Crimea the 33rd was decimated at the Crimea and so he may have gone into another regiment for a while

Julie

Once you have been to Kew you will want to go back time and again.  Dont like me though get sidetracked looking at other fascinating stuff as the time slips away very quickly!
