Oziemkiewicz - Poland to Ukraine and back again.....

Family papers indicate that Leon Oziemkiewicz born about 1890 Grajewo, Poland, was confirmed (not sure if Catholic or Orthodox) in Odessa, Ukraine in 1901 and that he also attended Odessa University.  His parents were Leon Wojciech Oziemkiewicz born in Klaszczele, Poland and Zofia Scholastyka Plaszkiewicz born in the Bialystok region.

We know that Leon the son was back in Poland by the 1920s.  Possibly they all left around 1917 when the Russian revolution started.

Is there any way of finding anything about the Oziemkiewicz family’s time in Odessa?

Leon Oziemkiewicz (1890 - 1957) returned to Poland with the wife Russian (1897 - 1989).
Had on the name Katarzyna (the maiden name Podgorna) and came with Taszkent (Uzbekistan).
They had one son of Edward (1921 - 1996). After II World War everybody lived in Toruń (Poland).
The son of Edward married in 1957. I am his son born in 1958.
Leon Oziemkiewicz would be formally my grandfather (I gave birth after his death).

Hi Gaie...I have no idea where Grajewo is - but I do have experience in Ukraine /Poland research..My father in law was born in Rohatyn ,Ukraine - but - this was previously Rogatyn ,Poland ...there is a section of Poland / Ukraine 11 - 17 miles wide which has changed hands several times ...Poland / Ukraine /Poland /Ukraine ....so - might I suggest you look to see whether Grajewo is in this stretch of land ...and also - you may be of help to me ...my father in law was Ostap Kabluckyj  b 1927 in Rohatyn, Ukraine ( Rogatyn ,Poland )...if by any chance you come across this surname would you please let me know .....thanks

Grajewo is about 40 miles NW of Bialystok, so nearer to the Belarus/Lithuania borders.

While we're on place-names, I should have written Kleszczele in my first post; Kleszczele is about 10 miles south-east of Bielsk Podlaski and about five miles away from the Belarus border.

Thanks for the link, and I will keep an eye out for your father in law's surname; it's not showing up on Geneteka ( http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/ ), but relatively few Ukrainian records have been uploaded to that site.

I registered about 4 years ago - there is a professor in Kiev University who has helped me in my research who is convinced my father in laws Surname of Kabluckyj was mistranscribed when he was admitted in UK as a POW ...THE PROFESSOR says he thinks his name would have been Kablutijz...but sadly we will never know ...thanks for the links

On RootsChat I hit by chance, at the end of the work entering in Google the phrase „Leon Oziemkiewicz”.
In Poland are reportedly 76 persons about the name Oziemkiewicz, so the probability that one is about proper Leon Oziemkiewicz in the connection with described facts is high enough.
