Help with Susan Baird's death cert COMPLETE
« on: Saturday 05 December 09 17:55 GMT (UK) »
The attached is part of the death cert of Susan Baird, my G-G-G Grandmother.

I THINK[/i] it says -

1st Box
Baird Susan {??} {??} Widow of John Baird {??}

2nd Box
1857 April twenty?? {twentyfourth, perhaps?} {??} 41{possibly} Castle Street Montrose

3rd box
F

4th box
82 years {possibly}

5th box
William Taylor seaman  {possibly} deceased
Jane {or is it Janet?} Taylor maiden name Leighton deceased

Can anyone fill in the blanks, and do you agree with what I've got so far.

All help gratefully received

Jim

I think Susan may have been a "Gear Greaser" and her husband, John a carpenter.  I think her mother was called Janet, but otherwise, I agree with your deductions.

Honan - Manchester and Ireland
Hogg - Manchester 19 cent
Anderson - Newcastle mid 19 cent
Boullen - London then Carlisle then Manchester

The 1851 census has her as a green grocer living at 104 Castle Street, born in Montrose c. 1783. A submitted IGI entry has what is showing above, parents William Taylor and Janet Leighton and her death date (probably taken from her death cert).

Thanks everyone.

Green Grocer make sense right enough as I have John as a green grocer, but it never occured to me that it would be Susan's occupation as well. I agree with alpinecottage that carpenter is what John is shown as.

Monica - That IS[/i] an old thread right enough, but it gives me some more clues. I'm still a bit unsure about the (William) Alexander Dunn though. Looks like some more digging through OPR's!

Thanks again
Jim
