Henry John Beamish
« on: Tuesday 08 December 09 16:44 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody out there help me?

I'm looking for the birth record of a Henry John Beamish or John Henry Beamish for that matter born around 1857 according to his marriage certificate. I've found a possibility in the London Baptism Records for 1853 but I need to confirm his mothers name.

I have his wedding certificate for 1894 stating that he was 37 and a widower living in Spitalfields as a mechanic. His father is given as Thomas Beamish also a mechanic.

On his daughters birth certificate in late 1894 he is now living in Mile End New Town, occupation dock labourer.

By the time he passes away in 1899 at the age of 42 he is back in Spitalfields again a dock labourer.

Other than that I have no other information I'm afraid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David

I found the following family on the 1861:
St Botolph without Bishopgate, 7 Montague (Pl?)

Thos Beamish Head 36 labourer (Bricklayer?) b. Ireland
Ann      "         Wife  35                                          "
John     "         Son    8                                         Shoreditch
Ella       "          Dau   6                                            "

RG9/212/60/3

Could be a possibility?
I'll see what else I can find ...

Lee

I did look for a marriage between a Thomas and Ann that fitted around these dates,  noticed they were both born in Ireland, perhaps they married there

Louisa,Lee,

Many thanks for your replies.

I've found a few possibilities but different mothers names over the past couple of weeks. The Thomas and Ann was the favourite front runner, I just needed to try and find a baptism that matched.

I've looked on Free BMD which throws up one for 1853 which I assume corresponds with the 1861 census result but, there could be a possibility that mine could have been born in Ireland and that's what I need to rule out somehow!

The only obstacle at the moment, is that on both his marriage and death certificates his date of birth is given as 1857, 4 years out. There's probably a simple explanation for this but if I can't find one.

Regards

David

Hmm, bit of a confusing one - I'm not convinced about the 1853 birth and baptism and the 1861 census for John Beamish, I think it's a different person ... as you say both the death record and the marriage give a clear 1857 birthdate - plus the fact that his first name is Henry. Also, there's a death registered for a John Beamish born 1853 in 1895, Whitechapel.
I'll keep looking, a good place to start is probably for that earlier marriage, as he was a widow in 1894.

Regards,
Lee

It's driving me round the twist!

Unfortunately there's no other children from the second marriage to look at as there was only my Great Gandmother Sarah Frances.

I found a John and Rebecca in 1891, but I can't find any of those children from that marriage with his widow Mary Ann Elizabeth in 1901.

1891 census - I think this is the same John Beamish (with father Thomas) that Lee found in 1861:

6 Cocks Hill, Bishopsgate

John Beamish Head m 37 Labourer b Shoreditch
Mary Beamish wife 40 (?) Laundress b Ireland, Ardee
Mary B daur 14 scholar b. Bishopsgate
John son 8 scholar b. Bishopsgate
