BMD certs are sent from Roscommon - Dublin deals with personal callers.

Request a photocopy of original - cost is 6 euro

Thanks a lot aghadowey  for moving topic.  I am also going to check out newspapers in the area to see if the accident was reported.

I have been on Donegal Resources Links to do some research.  Registration district for Alexander Johnston's burial is Stranorlar. In an attempt to find the  graveyard where he might be buried  I did some research on the Donegal Resources Links.
I found that Donegal has 8 baronies.
Raphoe South has 6 civil parishes on of which is Stranorlar.
Stranorlar has 1 town Ballybofey and 40 townlands.
I thought that Stranorlar was a town in its own right.  I am bewildered.  Are the townlands just hamlets and would I concentrate of checking cemeteries in each of the named parishes?  Or should I go with the parish of Stranorlar the registration district and not include the townlands.
Again I would be very pleased to have any guidance.

Thanks Mirrin.

Stranorlar is a Civil Parish - it contains 2 towns Ballybofey and Stranorlar known as the Twin Towns because they are next to each other joined by the bridge over the River Finn. Stranorlar and Ballybofey would have been quite small at the time Griffiths Valuation was taken; the area outside the town would have been classified Stranorlar Townland, Ballybofey Townland but much of these townlands would now be part of the town.
Stranorlar is also the name given to the Registars District; you will need to get the death cert to determine where Alexander died - it could be anywhere in Stanorlar Registrars District.

Townlands often consist of a group of farms- see here for details on townlands (go down to reply #3):

To find a church graveyard you'll need to have an idea of what religion the family would have been (although bear in mind that many Presbyterians are buried in Church of Ireland churchyards).

Registration Districts took in an area about 10 miles from the centre of registation so Stranorlar Registation District took in neighbouring Kilteevoge parish and other parts of the county.

Great information thanks to you both.  It really helps as I do not know anything about the area at all, but I am learning.  I will proceed with  the applicatiion for the death certificate and go on from there.

Thanks again

Mirrin
