Ogilvies of dundee

I'm in Australia and trying to trace back my Scottish (Ogilvie) line. So far I know that my great grandfather was John Dorward Wears Ogilvie born around 1876 -77 (electoral roll of 1899-1900 gives him as aged 23) in Dundee. The family came to Oz sometime prior to 1890 (reports say he was 10mths to ten years). I'm assuming that the parents came out too. I seeking help to trace the Dundee connection back as far as possible.

Have you looked on ScotlandsPeople?  John OGILVIE's birth certificate (1876) is available there for download.

Go to http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/search/birth/index.aspx and put in his name as OGILVIE and first names John Dorward.  He'll be the one hit in Angus for that year.

as Prue states john's birth certificate would make a good start
looks like he was registered in the st clement district of dundee
i cannot see him on the 1881 census of scotland so he could have left by then
as well as the electoral roll i found a marriage in 1902 to lily angelina schiffmann in queensland
4 children - walter , william , edna and margaret
it appears lily angelina died in 1946 parents joseph schiffmann and emily
bridgland
can't see a death for john

alexander thomas ogilvie b. 1892 queensland

looking at the births the full names of the parents are william henderson ogilvie
and elizabeth catherine wears

hopefully john's birth cert. will confirm the parents

ps john dorward ogilvie may have lived past 1964 as queensland record only
     go up to then online(or died in another state ?)
