COMPLETED Metfield Census 1811 - POLL
« on: Thursday 17 December 09 16:10 GMT (UK) »
I would be grateful if someone could lookup the 1811 census for Metfield and advise if any POLLs are listed.

I am interested to know if my ancestor Robert was still living in Metfield at this date. He died in 1815 aged 84 and is buried at Walpole, but both the burial register and his Will describe him as "of Metfield". I believe that his father (also Robert) was married in Metfield (in 1725) as were two of his daughters (in 1797 and 1807), and his daughter Priscilla (MAYHEW) was buried there in 1817 so have circumstantial evidence but no proof!

Any help or information would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Bill.

Hi
Are you sure that the 1811 census still survives for that area?  Very few do and in any case they are not much use for research purposes as they just list the householder plus the number of males or females in the house - not specific names.
See http://www.histpop.org/pre41/listings_a.pdf for more information.

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Yes, I believe that this census does survive - not least because it is listed on the Suffolk Lookup Offers on this site (see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,205740.0.html). Am therefore interested in knowing what information it contains.

Kind reagrds
Bill.

PM sent to Lookup Offer poster and reply received.

No POLLs listed in 1811 census, but a number of MAYHEWS are.

Many thanks,

Bill.
