Help! i have been stuck with finding out the birthdate of an ancestor!
she was born as Ellen Bligh in middlesex 1864 but i cant find her anywhere on the census! her father was william bligh, and she married Thomas barclay, but id really like to know who her mother was and anything prior to this! can anyone help me please?

hello i have no idea what her middle name was but eliza could be it as she had 2 daughters ellen and eliza! and eliza was my nan! she married thomas barclay in 1892 in mile end old town they lived 6 selsey  street im stuggling to find out her mothers name  and anything else like grandparents etc

The Ellen Eliza that Gortonboy is talking about appears to have married in 1886 in Berkhampstead whereas your Ellen didn't marry until 1892.

I presume you have the marriage certificate - could you please post the details ie age fathers occupation witnesses etc.

Do you have your nan's 1892 marriage cert? Can you tell us exactly what it says.....ages,jobs,addresses and witnesses?

Have you found her on the 1901 and 1911 censuses- if so what are the details. We often find that you have to move a little forward before moving backwards...if that makes sense

october 1892  thomas wyart barclay  30 batchelor 6 selsey street   thomas henry barclay (father) labourer   Ellen bligh   28 spinster   selsey street  william bligh (father) blacksmith    i know she worked as a matchmaker for bryant and may for 50 years early 1900s is this any help?

witnesses on the marriage certificate are john ince and emma rogers on the 1911 census they are living at 114 hawgood st bromley
