Where do I start? I will just give a little introduction to myself.
My name is Abdul Haqq begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting this was changed from Robert George Fletcher through the New South Wales Register of BDM. I did this as I had become a Muslim.
I was born in 1942 in Burbage, Leicestershire and came to Australia in 1965 and never been back. I am however hoping to visit next year.
My mother, Beatrice was the matriarch of the family and when see passed away in c1961 the family disintegrated, I was particularly resented by my half brother and half sister.
What I first want to do is to get record of my mothers birth and death. Grandmother on her side had passed away before I was born. Either she or Great Grandmother I am lead to believe came from Cork in Ireland. Mother's nick name was 'Pat' because of Irish connection.
Dad was George William Fletcher born in Waltham, Lincolnshire I need his records too. On his side I was told a story that either his Grandfather or Great Grandfather had come from Scandinavia and changed his name to Fletcher. I would like to confirm this.
Dad often used to say that when he was young if you got into trouble with the law the magistrate would give you the choice of jail or the army. Dad was in the Royal Leicester Regiment serving in India. Is there a skeleton in the cupboard there, only thought of this much later on.
I have looked on the LDS database and Free BDM with no results.
I am reluctant to use the commercial databases without recommendations that is is worth paying for this.
I feel I should start with myself and then work backward. Can you please off me some suggestions.
