Locating family in Isle of Man
« on: Friday 18 December 09 06:18 GMT (UK) »
I have just started tracing my family tree, (SAYLE family from Maughold, Isle of Man) part of which goes back to the late 18th century and into the 19th.

Some of the details I can find on the censuses, however, there is not very much availalbe for births, deaths and marriages.  Some info is available on a website run by the church of latter day saints, but a lot is missing, or I cant find details.

Any pointers to births deaths and marriage information?

Also female family members maybe on one census but not the next, probably due to marriage and if you dont know the new surname - where to after that ?

Hi and welcome to rootschat :)

The LDS[latter day saints] don't usually put deaths on their site so unfortunately you won't find them there...
The CD wizunk mentions lokks good value.

try http://www.iomfhs.im - indices to wills etc + many online
http://www.manxnotebook.com - much genealogy + summaries of about 8000 wills
the IGI is ok for extyracted records - the manxnotebook site will explain much about the Island records as it differs considerably from England
any thing with a Manx Connection
