Which regiment and when?
« on: Friday 18 December 09 09:36 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate any information, ideas or comments on this photograph.

Believed to be Samuel Haslam, (born 1864) who lived in Bolton, Lancashire.

(His eldest son (born 1892) WAS in the army and died in WW1...which one of them is it more likely to be?

Heres a picture of Officers of 1st Battalion Loyal North Lancs (c 1899) not in colour but I believe that its the same uniform !  :) .... though looking at your photo alongside it ... it looks like the fellah on the left front .. but his collar dogs are different ! ... wait a bit ... Scrimnet will tell us !! ( well at least - he'll tell me I'm wrong !!  ;) ;) ;) )

The Samuel Haslam memorial you found is not him.....he died back in Bolton.  His son, Thomas Ardill Haslam died at Gallipolli in WWI - I think Samuel, in his 50s by then, probably stayed in England.  His son was a career soldier - as was his grandson - but Samuel'swife ran a grocer's shop - which he took over when she died.

The photograph is a wonderful find - but again, although it looks a bit like him - I am not sure.
