What happened to him?
« on: Friday 18 December 09 15:03 GMT (UK) »
The second husband of my 2x great grandmother was Edward Thomas Buckby.

He was born on 1 December 1861 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Edward married Hannah Mellor (maiden name Shone) on 22 December 1894 at St Mary's Church, Eastwood, Keighley, West Yorkshire.  There were no children from this marriage.

Hannah died on 22 July 1921 in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

On the certificate she is listed as a widow but this seems a bit strange for two reasons;

I was told a story a long time ago that Edward Thomas killed himself after Hannah died as he couldn't live with it.

I also can't find any reference to his death before or after 1921.

Hi,

Can you find Edward and Hannah together on 1901/1911 census?

Hannah and Edward are together in 1901 along with her children but for some reason on the 1911 he's not there but Hannah is listed as married :-\

Again she is listed with her son Fred, daughter Florence and a step grandchild.

Hi,

What was his occupation?   Could it have taken him away from home/overseas and that was where he died?

Hi

I wonder if she was a "widow".

On 1911 census my gt.grandma lists herself as a widow but I've not been able to find a death for her husband.   I suspect, as he was much younger, that he deserted her and it was easier to call herself a widow.     :-\

I suppose the 'M' could be a 'W'.

I can find the image and post it here if that would help and if it's easy to do?

Who was the informant on the death cert?  Might get some clues there.
