Wallbank help please
« on: Saturday 19 December 09 19:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

My Great Aunt Beatrice Wallbank b 1882 in Dordon Warwickshire and her husband Albert Evans used to run The Wagon Load of Lime Pub in Ansley Nr Coventry for many years.  They married in 1905 and had three children Daisy, Leonard and Winnie.

My mom was born in 1931 and can remember these children when visiting the pub with her mother but I can not find their respective births/marriages or deaths.  :-\

My mom recalls that Daisy never married and died at aged approx 30, Leonard married and had two sons David & Keith and Winnie married a Bob Adkins and had a daughter called Daphne.

I assumed I had enough information to go on but I can't seem to locate them....can anyone help please???  ps there are lots of Wallbanks and my mom had lots of Aunts and uncles so I am getting very confused.

Many Thanks
Gail

But wouldn't their surname be Evans - not Wallbank?

Hi Gail,,

the 1911 Census shows Beatrice and Albert Evans along with Daisy aged 4 and Leonard aged 2.
This means Daisy's birth should be registered between 1st qtr 1906/1st qtr 1907
there is a Daisy Evans March qtr 1906 Birmingham 6d 54.
Leonard's birth should be registered between 1st qtr 1908/1st qtrr 1909
there is a Leonard Mark Evans March qtr 1908 again Birmingham.

Winifred EM Evans was born Sept qtr 1918 Nuneaton 6d 1006 -mothers maiden name Wallbank.

hope this helps

kind Regards
Sandra

Morning Gail,

No -the family were living at 5 St. Wilfreds,Arley,Coventry and at that time Albert's occupation was a Coal Miner.

Looking further into your family  I see the childrens birthplace is given as Arley which is covered by the Nuneaton Registration District.
Looks like the children were called by their middle names because in the right time scale on freebmd is :-

Sept qtr 1906 Ada Daisy Nuneaton 6d 509
Dec    "   1908 Albert Leonard    "    6d 465

This would account for why you haven't been able to trace marriages/deaths either, so try looking for Ada and Albert rather than Daisy and Leonard

Good luck

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Sorry I have not replied earlier.

Thankyou yet again for your help.  I would never have found the children with their middle names, you amaze me how you found this out ;) My mother had always known them as Daisy & Leonard.
I wonder why both children were christened with one name and both decided to use their middle names.  This is why we find researching family trees hard ....they never gave us a thought that one day we would like to look into their past ;D

Gail

Isn't that interesting.  My husband's ggggrandfather - John Cheshire ran the Wagon Load of Lime from sometime between 1841 and 1871.  He finally retired as an annuitant and moved in with his daughter in Arley Village.

Hi Gail, Hoou have made some progress since you were last on here,

My Gt Uncle was Albert Evans who married Beatrice Wallbank, and they ran the 'Wagon load of Lime'  Beatrice carried on running the pub after Albert died, and I beleive at one point she was the oldest Lady Publican in the country.

I have obviously been looking for the Evans - Albert and my Gt Grandad John were based in Burton on Trent until they moved to Arley as Miners, their Father George was born in B'ham

Have you any other info that would help me

Thanks
Sue
