Shakey, there is reference to Windy Harbour in a book on the archive.org.  It gives the history of Bromborough
follow this link and then with control F enter Windy Harbour and it will take you to the relevant section.

I also know that I have read this name on a house or road in the bebington area on my trips to see my aunt, but for the life of me cannot think were it is situated exactly.
Good Luck

is this any use - just search Shakeshaft and Poulton cum Spittle- some map info but I can't work out whether it would be useful or not  ::)

Spittle is now spelt Spital just in case you didn't know.
Moreton. McKeown.

Yes  - it's coming up as an alternative spelling and then you realise  :)

Just read that places with 'Spital' in them come from a hospital being there at some time which then seems obvious-  much better than 'Spittle'  :o

Just a little more information following Heywood's post. Clatterbridge Hospital is also in Spital and was the Wirral Union Workhouse. Clatterbridge is referred to in the link I left on my previous post.

Shakey, how much information do you already have?  Thomas Shakeshaft is on quite a few of the census data (care is needed as there are two with birth dates within a few years of one another), one is married to Elizabeth and one to Jane. I am presuming yours is the one married to Elizabeth as he is the one appearing on the 1841 census at Windy Harbour.
Let us know what you have and Rootschatters can post details from the census for you.

Hello all

Did not expect such a quick responce from so many, so thank you all

Kathb, yes John was married to Elizabeth, but now stuck on any further info about either of them, marrage dates etc, also as you point out, there must be a street/house with the Windy Harbour name

As you might guess I am new to all this, so any more help will be very much appreciated

In those days large houses where given names, when they got demolished they named a lane or cul-de-sac after the house. One of our members ancestors lived in a BIG house where now there are modern ones but the hill leading up to the rock where the house was.Has the name of the house.
