Hello,
I would still recommend looking at the marriage certificate, but can tell you that the James Murray, b. 1835 Castleton, son of John Murray and Ann Jardine, died on 19 Sep 1908 at Newcastleton as a single man (ref: Death Cert 1908 784 31).
That leaves the other James Murray as your likely candidate, especially given the naming pattern.
See him on the 1861 Census here:
http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/61transcript.aspx?houseid=78913025 and with his parents James Murray and his wife Elizabeth Shiel in the 1851 census here:
http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/51transcript.aspx?houseid=78906095 and with his parents again in the 1841 census here:
http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/41transcript.aspx?houseid=78902010 Elizabeth Shiel died on 9 Aug 1870 at Hope Park, Wilton, James Murray, son, of Wilton Crescent registered the death. She was the daughter of Robert Shiel, handloom weaver, and his wife Agnes m.s. Scoon (ref: Death Cert 1870 810 68).
Agnes Scoon appears on the 1841 census here:
http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/41transcript.aspx?houseid=78413054 James Murray was born on 17 Sep 1805 at Castleton. He was the son of Walter Murray, hand loom weaver, and his wife Christian Douglas.
Hope this helps,
Emma
